Nationwide House Energy Rating Scheme (NatHERS) assessments are considered the gold standard for measuring residential energy efficiency. Set up by the Australian government, NatHERS identifies your home’s comfortability while using as least energy as possible.

NatHERS, at its core, is a software-based assessment tool that calculates the thermal performance of a building by considering a building’s orientation, building materials used, glazing, insulation, and ventilation.

Our qualified and accredited industry professionals conduct our NatHERS assessments in full compliance with NatHERS Protocols. Upon completion of each assessment, the results are documented and submitted to the relevant building authorities for inclusion in the building’s records.

Deemed to Satisfy ​​Elemental Provisions Assessments

Deemed to Satisfy Elemental Provisions Assessments ensures that energy requirements outlined by the National Construction Code for residential homes are met.

This assessment type is generally used for alterations or extensions to a residential building but can also be used for new residences. These assessments evaluate the building’s design and various construction elements against predetermined performance criteria.
Although this method doesn’t provide as much flexibility as a NatHERS assessment, it can provide a cost-effective way to achieve compliance in specific circumstances.

Section J Deemed to Satisfy Assessments

Industrial/Commercial Deemed-to-Satisfy assessments ensure that commercial buildings such as offices, warehouses, retail spaces, and other structures comply with the energy efficiency requirements outlined in the National Construction Code (NCC).
Several requirements need to be met. Insulation, glazing, ventilation, lighting, sealing, and implementing (HVAC) systems are all subject to assessment.

A building that complies with the requirements for each test item is deemed to have met the minimum energy efficiency requirements set by the NCC.

At Energy Advance, we will collaborate to ensure that your building’s design and construction elements align with the required performance criteria.

To perform energy assessments effectively, we require the following information:

  • Detailed architectural plans and drawings, including floor plans, elevations, and sections.
  • Window and door schedules, specifying sizes, types, and glazing properties.
  • Insulation specifications for walls, roof, and floors.
  • Information about the building’s orientation and shading elements.
  • Lighting design and specifications, including the types and wattages of fixtures.

If you don’t have any of this information, you can rely on us to make realistic and reasonable assumptions based on our experience where required.

JV3 Assessments

JV3 Assessments offer a well-rounded method to evaluate a building’s energy efficiency and performance. These types of assessments use advanced computer-simulated 3D modelling systems to create a visual representation of the building’s structure. We can determine the energy efficiency by comparing the modelled building’s yearly energy usage to a reference building that meets the NCC’s Deemed-to-Satisfy (DTS) requirements.

To carry out this analysis, the assessment considers factors like the building’s temperature and energy consumption, using historical weather data to calculate the usage rate for each hour of the year.
Additional aspects, such as the building’s heat transfer, the heat produced by occupants, power usage from electrical equipment, heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC), and artificial lighting, are also considered.

If the proposed building’s energy consumption is lower than that of the reference building, it is deemed compliant and successfully passes the JV3 assessment. This comprehensive approach ensures that the building’s overall performance meets the required standards for energy efficiency.

What’s the difference between Deemed to Satisfy and JV3 Assessments?

When it comes to ensuring buildings meet the National Construction Code (NCC), there are two main methods: Deemed-to-Satisfy (DTS) and JV3 assessments. Both approaches aim for the same goal but work differently and focus on different aspects of the building.

DTS assessments check that each part of a building meets the NCC’s rules individually. This means that every component must ensure the building follows the guidelines without relying on other components to make up for it.

On the other hand, JV3 assessments look at the building’s performance. To do this, we create a detailed 3D model of the building and simulate it for an entire year using past data. This helps to determine the building’s energy usage patterns.

By understanding how these two assessment methods differ, you can make better choices to ensure your building meets the necessary standards and performs at its best.

J6 Lighting Calculation Assessments

The J6 Lighting Calculation Assessment is crucial for commercial and industrial properties, including unconditioned warehouses, to meet the artificial lighting and power provisions outlined in Part J6 of the National Construction Code.
